Women’s Month: Marion Apollis

Marion Apollis’ family have lived in Elim for many generations and farmed the smallholding on which they are based. Marion has been very involved in sustainable fynbos harvesting, as well as managing a team that clears invasive alien plant species in the area.
Through the TMF Small Grants Facility, the Grootbos Foundation has funded an indigenous nursery structure which Marion and her husband, Pierre, will use as an alternative income stream in order to keep their alien clearing team employed during periods when they do not have alien clearing contracts in place. As part of the funding, in November 2019, Marion and her husband attended a one-day plant propagation workshop hosted by Green Futures College.

Table Mountain Fund

Launched by Sir Edmund Hillary, The Table Mountain Fund is a capital Conservation Trust Fund that develops and funds projects to protect and restore the world-famous natural heritage of the Cape, known as the Fynbos.
