In the Slanghoek Valley, renowned for its rugged landscapes and picturesque vineyards, you will find the Kanolvlei Conservation Area which forms part of the Opstal Estate. This beautiful property has been under the stewardship of the same family for seven generations. Through long-term, proactive initiatives, the family is actively maintaining and safeguarding this ecologically important area, which is home to remnants of the endangered Breede Alluvium Fynbos.

The Opstal Estate and Kanolvlei Conservation Area serve as a noteworthy example of the dedicated environmental stewardship of private landowners in the area, which is contributing significantly to the long-term protection of the region’s rich biodiversity.
